Electronic whiteboards

What is an Electronic whiteboard?

  • The electronic whiteboard is a flat surface mounted on a wall or on a floor stand.
  • A computer's or a laptop's image is projected onto the surface by using a projector.
  • A user can then control the computer by simply touching the board using a finger, hand or stylus pen.

How is the whiteboard connected to the computer or laptop?

The whiteboard is connected by USB, a serial cable, or a network cable. The whiteboard may also be connected wirelessly via Bluetooth or through a 802 b/g/n wireless network.

Software is installed onto the computer or laptop, which allows the board to be used as mouse or touch pad.

Hand writing to typed text software

Other features may include hand writing recognition which would allow a user to write text onto the board, which would then become typed text, in much the same way as a touch sensitive mobile computer (such as the Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy) works.

How does the interactive board sense movement?

Infra red or other proximity / movement sensors enables the system to detect movement ad position on the board.

Electromagnetic pen-based whiteboards require a stylus pen.

Touch sensitive whiteboards requires the board to be touched.
