Certain network devices, such as security cameras are able to use power that is supplied through the network cable, this saves on wiring costs on pre-existing or new networks.
Some network switches and network routers offer POE, but the powes being supplied may be limited.
When POE is not available, or the power (watts) or the Voltage is insufficient for a specific device, then a POE device may be used instead.
The POE device is connected in between the network and the device, and the POE device will inject the required voltage into the network cable.
